Urinalysis
Urinalysis
A urinalysis is a simple lab test that examines a sample of your urine. It can give your provider useful clues about your kidneys, urinary tract, hydration and overall metabolic health. PRN MEDICAL offers urinalysis as one of its services in Brooklyn.
What a urinalysis looks at
The test generally reviews the urine in three ways:
- Appearance — color and clarity, which can reflect hydration or the presence of blood or other substances.
- Chemical makeup — levels of things like glucose, protein, ketones and pH, measured with a test strip.
- Microscopic review — a look for cells, crystals or bacteria that are too small to see otherwise.
Why patients get one
People often have a urinalysis when they notice urinary symptoms such as burning, urgency or frequent urination. It is also commonly used to check for signs of kidney problems, to help monitor conditions like diabetes, and as part of a routine checkup or a broader workup alongside blood work.
What to expect
The test itself only needs a urine sample. Your provider will review the results with you and explain what they mean in the context of your symptoms and health history. A urinalysis is a screening tool, so an unusual result may lead to further testing rather than a diagnosis on its own.
If you have questions about preparing for a sample, or about how urinalysis fits with your other care, ask our team when you get in touch.
