Sonograms
Sonograms
A sonogram, also called an ultrasound, uses sound waves to create images of organs and tissues inside the body. PRN MEDICAL offers sonograms in the office, so your provider can look at what is going on without radiation.
What a sonogram can show
Ultrasound is a common tool for looking at soft tissues and organs. Patients and providers often turn to it when they want a clearer picture of a concern before deciding on next steps. Common areas of the body that are imaged include:
- Abdomen — organs such as the liver, gallbladder, and kidneys.
- Pelvis — reproductive and urinary organs.
- Thyroid and neck — the thyroid gland and nearby tissue.
- Soft tissue — lumps, swelling, or other areas of concern under the skin.
Which areas are appropriate to scan depends on your symptoms and your provider's evaluation.
Why it is done in the office
Having an ultrasound machine on site means imaging can be part of your visit rather than a separate trip elsewhere. Because sonograms do not use radiation, they are a familiar choice for many types of exams. Your provider can review what the images show and talk through what it means for your care.
